USA Dance 2010 National DanceSport Championships
This year on April 9-10-11, the USA Dance 2010 National DanceSport Championships are being held in Los Angeles at the new downtown JW Marriott. We would like to encourage all Los Angeles Chapter members to attend the event. Perhaps it is too late to compete because you can only do so if you have first competed in a USA Dance Regional during the preceding year, but just to go and watch can be a fabulous. Why? You can watch the children dancing Latin better than most adults ever will, and you can watch tomorrow’s professional stars battle it out in Champ and Pre-Champ, and you can watch adults and seniors just like yourself competing for the medals in Smooth, Rhythm, Standard and Latin.
At the South West Regionals in Long Beach in early February, hosted by the Orange County Chapter, L.A. Chapter members including five former L.A. Board members showed up to compete or to simply volunteer to help. It’s rare to have the Nationals this close to home, but you don’t have to compete to enjoy. If you love ballroom dancing, just watching and being there is a great way to get the most out of your USA Dance membership.
You can even volunteer your time to help if you want, in exchange for a free ticket to attend the events.
TICKETS:
Tickets for each day and evening are available online at usadancenationals.org. Daytime events are available for $15 and evening events for $35. (There is a $5 additional cost for tickets purchased at the door.) There are also weekend packages available ($90 for 3 evenings only; $120 for 3 days and 3 evenings). There are tea dances on Friday and Saturday for social dancers from 3-5 pm. Heats for the competitions and some dance workshops are available during the daytimes, and the evenings are devoted to the finals in the various categories. Saturday evening should be especially interesting, since it will feature a number of special exhibition dances in addition to the championship finals in some categories.
Thus, for little or no money, you can see some great ballroom dancing, and unlike most attendees, you won’t need a plane or a hotel to be there. It’s Los Angeles!
For all the exciting details, visit usadancenationals.org and mark your calendar today. If you miss this, you’ll regret it.
