Students at Sutter Middle School
USA Dance L.A.C. knows that the future of ballroom dance lies in the next generation. That’s why we launched a program offering ballroom classes to local middle school kids who might otherwise not have the opportunity to learn.
The students are taught foxtrot, rumba, cha cha, salsa, and merengue as part of physical education class. Our chapter pays professional ballroom instructor David Grace to teach the classes. We launched the program in 2007 when we taught the entire sixth grade class at Sutter Middle School (shown at left). We are currently teaching sixth graders at Carver Middle School in Inglewood, using funds raised from our 2009 Ballroom Showcase Spectacular.

Senior Outreach
USA Dance Los Angeles County has formed a ballroom performance team that travels to senior assisted living centers throughout Los Angeles. Led by volunteer chapter members Laura Harvelle and Julie Billig, the group rehearses several numbers and performs them for the seniors. Afterward, they invite the audience members to get up and dance. The seniors love the dancing and have told many of our members this is “the best thing that happened” in the way of entertainment at their center. Our performers always leave the centers with many thanks and a request for an encore.
Shoot us an email if you would like to join the performance team or get involved in some other way.
